Krzysztof graduated biology and biotechnology from the Department of Biochemistry at the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in 2004 and 2005, respectively. He started working with mass spectrometry and molecular biology as a visiting scholar in Department of Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Idaho, USA during the summer and early fall of 2004 as a part of an exchange program between the University of Idaho and Maria Curie-Sklodowska University.

He received (2011) PhD degree in medical biology from Medical University of Lublin, were he was working on metabolic interaction of ethanol and cyclic ketone-related compounds in human liver.

He worked in several research projects using mass spectrometry and chromatographic techniques for biomedical and food studies. Dr Tutaj research topics covered free radicals biochemistry, proteases from psychrotrophic fungi, ethanol, nutrigenomics, cancer genetics, drugs of abuse and food safety.

He is extremely keen on swimming, alpine skiing and road cycling. He is happily married to a biotechnologist Magdalena.
